The U.S. Mint records the classic dime standard as 2.500 grams and 90% silver, equal to about 0.07234 troy ounce of silver. Multiply that content by the live silver price and number of coins. A standard $5 roll contains 50 dimes and about 3.617 troy ounces of silver at nominal mint weight; $10 face is 100 dimes, or two standard rolls.
Mint weight versus circulated-bag convention
The calculator uses 0.07234 troy ounce per dime at nominal mint specification. Worn circulated 90% coinage is commonly estimated at 0.715 troy ounce per $1 face, equivalent to 0.0715 per dime, because circulation removes a small amount of metal.
Modern and collector issues need identification
Regular circulation dimes dated 1965 or later are copper-nickel clad, while some later proof and collector issues use separate silver specifications.
