Contained gold makes unlike coins comparable

A one-ounce Krugerrand and one-ounce Maple Leaf both contain one troy ounce of pure gold even though the 22-karat Krugerrand weighs more in total. Every row uses contained pure gold, so alloy purity does not distort the melt comparison.

Issue ranges and restrikes matter

This catalog separates China's ounce and metric Panda eras, identifies Austrian and Mexican restrikes, and marks interrupted historical series as selected years. That avoids implying that a coin was issued continuously or that every same-named type shares one specification.

Melt value is the floor, not the market price

Modern bullion normally trades above melt, and scarce dates or historical types can carry much larger premiums. Verify the exact type, year, mint, and authenticity before treating any world coin as generic metal.

Primary specification sources

Coin families were checked against the South African Mint, Royal Canadian Mint, Royal Mint, Perth Mint, and Banco de México. Historical types still require exact identification.

Frequently asked questions

Do a Krugerrand and Maple Leaf have the same melt value?

The one-ounce versions do because each contains exactly one troy ounce of pure gold. Their total weights and purities differ, but contained gold determines melt value.

Why are Chinese Gold Pandas split into ounce and metric rows?

China changed Gold Panda weights from troy-ounce denominations to metric gram denominations in 2016. A modern 30-gram Panda contains about 0.9645 troy ounce, not one full troy ounce.

What is a gold coin restrike?

A restrike is produced later while retaining a historical date. Austrian 1915-dated ducats and several Mexican peso types are common examples; they share the listed metal content but not necessarily an original coin's collector premium.

Are old world gold coins worth only melt value?

No. Rarity, condition, mint, variety, and demand can make collector value exceed melt, sometimes substantially.

How is world gold coin melt value calculated?

Multiply the coin's contained pure gold in troy ounces by the editable gold spot price. Quantity totals add that result across every selected row.
