The FTC Jewelry Guides prohibit palladium marks or descriptions that misrepresent an item's true composition and recognize “Pd.” and “Pall.” abbreviations. A PD950 or similar stamp is a clue, not proof; use professional testing when the alloy or plated construction is uncertain.

A magnet response can reveal some non-palladium components, but a nonmagnetic result does not establish palladium content or purity. Use the complete mark and professional composition testing for valuable or uncertain items.
