Price source and refresh policy

MeltOffer requests its same-origin /api/prices JSON snapshot, which validates Gold API observations and caches them for 60 seconds. The page keeps the dated values above if a current observation is unavailable; each linked calculator exposes the price as an editable input.

Gold API documents XAU, XAG, XPT, XPD, and HG in USD. It does not document the HG unit or a CME linkage, so MeltOffer labels copper as an assumption based on the CME HG convention of USD per pound. Confirm every reference independently before a transaction.

Frequently asked questions

How often do MeltOffer metal prices update?

The page requests a validated 60-second snapshot on load, every 60 seconds, and when a hidden browser tab becomes visible again.

Are these guaranteed trading or scrap prices?

No. They are reference observations, not executable bids, appraisals, or local scrap-yard offers. Confirm the price basis and compare actual written quotes.

Why is the copper unit marked assumed?

Gold API identifies Copper/HG and USD but does not document the unit or a CME linkage. MeltOffer applies the CME HG convention of USD per pound and labels that assumption explicitly.
