Silver price per grain

One grain is 1/480 of a troy ounce, or about 0.0647989 gram. The table above shows the contained-silver value per grain for every listed purity.

Troy pound or avoirdupois pound?

"A pound of silver" is ambiguous, and the two pounds differ by about 21%. This page reports the avoirdupois pound — the ordinary 453.59237-gram pound your kitchen or postal scale weighs in — because that is the pound almost everyone means. The troy pound is a separate historical unit of exactly 12 troy ounces, used only for precious metals.

Both rows follow the same visible price above. The NIST precious-metals conversion table defines both units. If a buyer quotes you "per pound", confirm which pound before agreeing a figure.

The transparent formula

Each row equals the visible market value per troy ounce × its unit conversion × its purity or recovery factor. Change the input and every row recalculates in your browser.

Sterling price uses silver-bearing weight

The .925 row values silver-bearing metal at 92.5% of the pure-silver reference. Weighted candlesticks and hollow-handled knives can contain filler, supports, or blades; stones, mechanisms, and other non-silver parts also must not be counted as sterling weight. Use a qualified assessment when the net weight cannot be measured without damage. Calculate sterling silver value per gram or ounce or use the sterling silverware value calculator for flatware and hollowware.

Silver plate is not a lower-purity sterling row

A plated article has a silver layer over another metal, so gross weight × a sterling percentage is not a valid valuation. Use the complete mark and the FTC silver terminology to distinguish sterling, coin silver, and plated descriptions before applying any per-gram value.

Frequently asked questions

What is the silver price per pound today?

The displayed reference value is $841.31 per pound until the live feed updates or you edit the market price. Prices move continuously, so confirm the timestamp and input before transacting.

How is silver price per pound calculated?

MeltOffer converts the visible market price per troy ounce using exact unit factors, then multiplies by purity where applicable. Every value on this page updates from the same editable input.

Will a buyer pay the full silver reference price?

Usually not. The reference price values contained metal before testing, handling, refining, and buyer margin. Use the silver calculator to compare a written quote.

What does .925 silver price per gram mean?

It is the pure-silver price per gram multiplied by 0.925. It applies only to the silver-bearing metal weight of an article represented as sterling.

Can I use this table to value silver-plated items?

No. Plating thickness and recoverable silver are not established by gross object weight, so the sterling and fineness rows do not value plated articles.
